How to convert bytes to bits

bit = B × 8

Multiply the value in bytes by 8. To go the other way, divide by the same number, or multiply by 0.125. For example, 5 B × 8 = 40 bit.

About the units

Bytes (B). Eight bits, enough for one character of plain text.

Bits (bit). The smallest unit of data, a single 0 or 1. Network speeds are quoted in bits per second.
